MS CRM 2016 Setting Up for Offline PC

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I'm new here and not sure where to post my question, so please bear with me.

I've installed Dynamics CRM 2016, choosing the option to use it offline, after going through the process of installing SQL Server Express and Reporting Extensions.

When CRM starts, ir requests an address for the Dynamic web server. There isn't one, as I selected to install the local offline option.

So, after spending an entire day installing the various pieces of software, no go.

Surely there's a simple answer?

Thank you for your prompt and clear answer.

What's a CRM VM? And how do I get it going?

No, your understanding is not correct, you need a CRM server to connect. It’s a client and server architecture. CRM for outlook is just a client, but you need a server to connect.

You can setup a CRM VM where you can install CRM server and can install outlook client as well.

I can't install CRM Server as my PC is running Windows 10, not Windows Server.

I understood that SQL Server Express takes the place of the CRM Server.

I have successfully installed SQL Server Express but CRM does not start when I open Outlook.

You can use offline client to access your CRM data but first you need to setup CRM server,  have you installed CRM server??, if you have installed on premise CRM,you can provide your on premise server url while it's assing for server details.
