NavUserPassword in NAV 2013 R2

Posted on by 1,112

Dear all,

NavUserPassword is configured in the NAV Server.

All machines are running under a domain & try to connect the NAV Database. Suppose there are Six Client Machines for Six domain users. Any user wants to connect the NAV from any one of them Six  client machines.

In this case should I need to import the required certificates for each & every windows login for a single client machine ?

Should I have to do this activity(6x6) for six client machines ?

Kindly reply.

Regards,

SB

RE: NavUserPassword in NAV 2013 R2

The same Issue has raised in another NAV Customer.

A single machine(called RDPNAV) is used remotely to access the Nav 2013 R2 Database. Yesterday, the system administrator has created two Users one for Remote login(in RDPNAV machin) and another is for NAV login.

The new user has entered into the RDPNAV machine remotely and trying to access the NAV Database. At that moment the user has faced the "Validate Certificate" issue.

Is it only for a one machine or is it same for all the machines?

    Hi RockwithNAV,

I had these strange experienced in one of my client. A Single Client ask for Validate certificate for each and every different login. I don't know the reason behind it.

    Hey Subrata,

No you dont have to install it in 6 different machine. If there would be such kind of monotonous Job that would have these kind of dependencies there wont be any benefit of using Credential Type as NavUserPassword.

Coming to your question if you have configured your credential as NavUserPassword and it's running well in the NAV Server that means a valid certificate has already been attached there and you you will see the Thumprint  in your Instance.

I have done this for one of my client and around 70 different users are accessing it globally in different countries.

Pardon me if I misunderstood something.

    Hi Ashwin,

For the time being, suppose it's truly a 3 tier architecture.

On Service tier and Server if both are different, means on which service is running.

When you are going to access the NAV Server using RTC in the same machine you don't need to import the certificate because it's imported(created) already.

I've imported the certificate to the Computer Account instead of other two options.

About the Windows Domain Logins ....

Might be they have other PCs which are not in domain.

I would try to Import the certificate on the Client to the Computer Account instead the different user profiles. What i don´t understand is why you try to use NavUserPassword instead of Windows Domain Logins since you seem to have a working Domain and also you already have valid Domain accounts for all users. What is the benefit of this?

RE: NavUserPassword in NAV 2013 R2

    Hi Vishal,

    I’ve searched everywhere.

The mentioned link explained (only) about the configuration of NAV SERVER & the client in (same) single machine.

I have experienced that if no of domain user logins into a single PC to connect the NAV Server then it's mandatory to require certificates in every login environment.

Suppose in a small Organization, there are two PC. One is for SERVER & another is Client. The server pc is for SQL and as well as for NAV Server. The Client is for RTC. In this organization there are 6 domain users. They all use the single PC (Client) to access the NAV Database. The all end-users have different logins userid & password to log into the client PC as well as log into the NAV application. I have noticed that every login requires the certificate for validation.

Assume that the users are alpha, beta, gamma & etc. When alpha has logged into the client pc to access NAV, the system asks for certificate. What I have done is that I’ve imported the certificate for that user environment and the same activity I have to do for the next/all login user (beta, gamma & etc).

So, I want that I'll import the certificate once for a single client PC & it will work for the all (domain) users who want to access the NAV from this client...

    How is it Possible?
