Item Quantity on Hand shows 35, but bin quantity is 0

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I have a particular item that has 35 units on the item card's Quantity on Hand, but it shows 0 quantity in bin. I created a negative adjustment. However, when I post it to GL it says I don't have the inventory to do it. How can I clear out the Quantity on Hand to 0 so it matches bin content which is 0?

    Hi Yvette,

normally the reason of discrepancies is adjusting the warehouse quantity (via Whse. Item journal) but not completing it within the ILE (Item Ledger Entry) level, by calculating and posting warehouse adjustments in the Item Journal. The longer ILE-level adjustments are not run, the more difficult is to reconcile the two.

Another reason for discrepancies can be special developments that don't work well, but I can't comment on this for obvious reasons.

    Hi Robertas,

We have the same issue here. Do you know where the difference is from normally?

    Thanks,

    Yvette

Now, it says that I have 0 quantity on hand but 10 in bin contents. Is there a way that I can add 10 quantity on hand with adding anymore to bin contents?

It does seem confusing, although I'm sure there is a logical explanation, just difficult to see without deeper analysis of transactions. I can't think of any plausible scenario where remaining ILE quantity (39) is less than the required adjustment (45). Not sure what Net Invoice Quantity is - that must be a bespoke development.

After I run the Calculate Warehouse Adjustment, the quantity shows 45 on the populated entry.

Item card shows 39 in quantity with a Net Invoice Quantity of 5.

    Ok, two quick questions:

    - When you run the 'Calculate Warehouse Adjustment', what quantity does it give you? Is it 35?

    - Go to Item card and click 'Item By Location'. What does it tell you there on the location in question?

    Hi Robertas,

I have done that. Every time that I try to post the journal adjustment, it tells me that I have insufficient inventory to do it. If I delete the entry then re-run Calculate Warehouse Adjustment, the entry repopulates but still won't let me post when I try.

    Hi Bryan

if you use advanced warehouse (directed put-away & pick), you might want to run 'Calculate Warehouse Adjustment' from the Item Journal. In this case whenever the adjustment is made on the warehouse level (Bins), someone has to record it on the Item Ledger Entry level, using Calculate Warehouse Adjustment and posting that journal. Only then Bin Contents will match the Item Ledger Entry.

    Hope that helps.

Make sure you check in all the locations. Try to filter the Bin Contents table for that particular item and check.

Have you checked Item Ledger Entry? Do you have 35 items on location X (no warehouse location, so Bin is blank)? A negative adjustment with qty 35, location X is right.
