Can we use CRM Lookup control in a custom Asp.Net Web Application

Posted on by 55

Hi All,

We have an on premise CRM 8.2 version and a custom web application hosted inside the CRM folders [Though it is not recommended, we are using if from years and trying to move out of this].

We are trying to host this application separately as new WebSite now.

When the web application is hosted inside CRM we were able to use the OOB Lookup control using the Xrm.Internal object[Not documented to use ]  to open lookup and select records.

Question here is how do we use this OOB Lookup control after hosting the web application as separate Website ? [We don't have Xrm object here].

You are right.. you will not get CRM context inside that WebApp as both are running in different application pools. Now if you want to have that kind of functionality you will two ways I can think off.

    1. Recreate a new custom popup form with similar CRM functionality. This will involve development and you may not get same look and feel as well.

    2. Create a new Web Resource with the desired functionality which you are planning to have in webApp. This will give you better control and will be shipped with CRM to other environments as well. Apparently this will be hard work as you will have to play with HTML and JS a lot in absence of a designer support.

    Hope this helps,
