Reporting Tree not Restricting Access

Hello. I'm fairly new here so please forgive me if this is elementary to you all.

Our organization consists of several business units (currently 76 to be exact), each of them having a specific manager. I need to be able to run reports where the tree determines who is able to see what. We ultimately want the managers to see the results of only their business unit. We are currently using SharePoint for our users to view their reports and I don't know if this has anything to do with it or not. What I'm doing to test this is adding one of our test user profiles and assigning it to say 3 of the business units and the remaining are assigned elsewhere. When logged into SharePoint as this test user I see all business unit's data, including that of the test user.

I have made sure that the dimensions in both the tree and rows are the same when running reports, so beyond that I just don't know.

I would be so grateful for any help that can be offered. I'm stuck.

    Hi,

How, that is in which format, do you store the MR reports on SharePoint and how to you store them there?

About the limited analysis of the data, please have a look at the following blog posts

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

Thank you so much for your response Ludwig.

I actually did come across the two links you sent me. Because the second link uses the Report Library, which we don't use, directly anyway, it won't work for me. I believe the format of our reports in SharePoint is html.

So the first link did catch my attention, but my concern was that it looked like I would have to have 76 columns, one for each business unit, in my column definitions. I've attached an image of how we currently have our structure set up. Is this just wrong? It does give us the data and format we need, so how would I integrate the structure from the first link?

I'm concerned about making out a monster of a column structure and tree definition that will be difficult, at best, to maintain. That said, the correct access of these reports is more important than the maintenance.

    Hi,

If you have 76 different business units and want to be very restrictive with the data that the business unit managers can see then you will have to setup a comprehensive report.

Do you know if those users do also have direct access to Dynamics?

If they also have access to Dynamics you might even have to do an additional security setup in Dynamics to ensure that the business unit managers cannot inquire the vouchers that are linked to other business units.

In other words, in this case you would have to implement XDS in addition.

Before doing that double check with your colleagues whether such a tight security is really necessary because it will certainly require some time to setup and maintain all those security measures.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
