Why target is entity reference in delete message plugin not entity. just curious to know.

Only thing required to Delete a record is Name of entity and its GUID Entity reference has both . IF you pass Entity it will do the same job but will be a bigger object if users add any other column and serialization and deserialization will be slow.

I believe because when you delete the record, it is no longer exists in CRM, that's why the system will reference this deleted record and the target is entity reference.
However, if you create your delete step in post operation and create a PreImage image under this post delete step, you can always get the target as entity and not entity reference.
