I put the POS in practice mode to review the features, and restarted the program like it instructed. Now it opens up the loading window and gives me the error message:
To complete this operation, you must be logged into this computer using an account that is an Administrator on both this computer and the database computer. However, you cannot use the account that is named "Administrator". For more information, see...[something in the POS.]
If you are unsure how to proceed, switch to the database computer, log on as an Administrator, and then perform this operation there.
I am not given the option to log in using other credentials. Or do anything else really. How can I get the computer to open the POS software again?

open the following directory
C:\programdata\Microsoft\Microsoft Dynamics POS
then open rms.config
find the section for practice mode and change back to default below:

First, ensure you have created identical Windows user accounts with identical passwords on both systems. These accounts also need to have administrator privileges.
Then, complete the POS 2009 PCI Compliancy Guide on all systems. This guide goes over SQL Server and Firewall settings that need to be enabled for connections to the server.
Forgot that POS2k9 has a practice mode. Sorry we don't sell/support/recommend POS2k9
Open Windows/File Explorer | go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Retail Management\Store Operations\ right click on the 3 files ending in .manifest and rename them as .manifest.old.
If a 64b OS its C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Retail Management\Store Operations\
