Modifying Sales Transaction Entry Window

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I am trying to modify my Sales Transaction Entry window to change the Trade Discout and Miscellaneous fields to be non editable.

In modifier i set the editable value to FALSE

I set security to the alternate window - but i can still enter vales in these fields.

What am i missing?

Thank you so much K Day...you input below actually put me on the right track for the Trade Discount and Miscellenaous fields.

Trade discount is actually three Entry fields (1 on top of the other)

    (L) Trade Discount Amount

    Originating Trade Discount Amount

    Trade Discount Amount

I also had to modify the Sales Trade Discount Entry window.....

Thanks again.....this made my day in figuring this out and doing something that i was told could not be done!!!!

The only thing I can think of is that maybe it is one of those properties get set back to enabled on the Loading of the form or when an action happens on the form (like adding a new line item) or entering a customer or something like that, even though you set it in Modifier.  I have found that to be the case with Field Level Security (which you might also want to try.)  I remember setting a Delete button to "Inactive" on Load, which worked, but then once someone picked a batch, it would set it back to "Active" basedon the application code.  If you can mess around with it, maybe try some VBA code to set it to Locked = True or Visible = False.  This is where I would just start messing around with the window and see how I can get it to work.

Thanks for all the help...i ended up opening a case with support...turns out dexterity is overriding. They suggested using VBA at this point.

So we can rule out Alt-Mod security as the issue.

When data entry fields are marked uneditable the background changes from white to the system background (both in modifier and the client when running).

Trade discount is actually three Entry fields (1 on top of the other)

    (L) Trade Discount Amount

    Originating Trade Discount Amount

    Trade Discount Amount

    Freight has five

    (L) Freight Amount

    Originating Freight Amount

    (L) Originating Freight Amount

    (L) Freight Amount Incl Tax

    Freight Amount

I think editable fields "bubble" over uneditable.

I think you will have to make all of these field uneditable.   Pick them from the Properties Drop-down and set the uneditable property.

Re: Modifying Sales Transaction Entry Window

When you open the Sales Transaction Entry Window dow you see a period in front of "Sales Transaction Entry"?

A period in front means that the form has been modified using Modifier.

A period behind mean the the form a VBA attached to it.

If you don't see a period in front, you haven't granted Alt-Mod security properly.

Re: Modifying Sales Transaction Entry Window

My customer reported they were trying to do this - so i tried from my system

    Logged into GP as 'sa'

OPened the Sales Transaction Entry window - chose to modify current window

Set Trade Discount and Miscellaneous to FALSE on Editable

Gave myself access to the Alternate Window in security. (this was added in the list AFTER i made the changes)

I confirmed my 'sa' user is set the DEFAULT user id

I can still access these fields.

What are we missing - either in the changes or security?

When you say default alternate form, do you mean the modifed version or is this an alternate form and you have a modified version of an alternate form?

Did you set security to use this modified form?

Yes, 'sa' is assigned to the default alternate forms and reports ID. I am sure i granted the correct access.
