New Lead -> Qualify - check for existing Account based on different column?

Hi,

When Qualifying a Lead, CRM already checks if it finds a matching Company Name in Accounts as seen below. However, we'd prefer if it could match against a different column in the Accounts table.
Is there a way to change it to instead match against our Account Number field (a custom column)? Instead of Company Name, we use our custom Account Number field as the uniquely identifying value for clients.

Thank you

    Hi Leah Ju,

Yes, improved duplicate detection is turned on.
We also already have a rule to check for duplicate Account Numbers; however, it only triggers when manually creating an Account NOT when an Account is created via Qualifying a Lead.

I'm assuming that the duplicate check performed when qualifying a Lead is different than the duplicate detection rules simply because the two pop-ups are titled differently.

In my original post, the duplicate check pop-up when Qualifying a Lead is titled "Account or Contact may already exist", whereas when manually creating an Account the pop-up is titled "Duplicate records found". This leads me to believe the former is controlled by something somewhere else. That something is what I'm wondering if is possible to reconfigure.

When qualifying a lead, if a duplicate account or contact is detected while creating new records, a duplicate warning is shown to you.
Depending on whether your system administrator has enabled the improved duplicate detection and merge experience, you'll see the options to resolve duplicates.
By default, there are four duplicate detection rules on the account entity as follows:
You can unpublish rules that you don't need, create one new rule on the account, select the field you need and publish this new rule.
