is it possible to add notes/comments to documents etc like in nav (not in the lines)?

This functionality does not exist in the product yet. It is being looked at for the Tenerife update this spring possibly. You can see this functionality if you deploy a Sandbox environment.

As far as I know, current version does not allow this, but 'Tenerife' version in spring will have that, as it would contain the same code base as Dynamics NAV 2018 - at least this is what I got from the recent conferences.
