last direct cost on item masterdata

Good evening,

I am wondering if there's a way to disable the “last direct cost” field on the item card:

I would like to avoid that BC updates it everytime I post a purchase document and, if this is not possible, if there is a way to avoid that on PO lines the price is automatically updated if this field is filled (without using price lists).

thanks

Federico

Hi Federico, I know you wanted to avoid price lists, but you could just make a price list that applies to “All vendors” that has the item on it at 0$ and a minimum quantity of 1 unit. That will then simply just use 0$ instead. I don't believe there is another way to accomplish this but other users may have input.

    Hi,

No setup toggle exists for either of these, both are hardcoded standard behavior.

Last Direct Cost auto-update: happens during purchase posting, no way to turn it off via configuration.

PO line price defaulting from Last Direct Cost: happens when no price list applies, also hardcoded fallback.

Without an extension, you can't stop either. If you want to block it, you'd need a small AL customization. An event subscriber on the Direct Unit Cost validation (or on posting) to skip/reset the value.

If you found this helpful, please verify the answer so that it can benefit others as well.

    Hello Federico Davoli,

In standard Business Central, there is no setup option to disable updating Last Direct Cost. Microsoft uses this field intentionally as the most recent direct purchase cost, and when you create a new purchase line, if no applicable purchase price exists, BC uses the SKU Last Direct Cost (if applicable), otherwise the Item Last Direct Cost, as the default Direct Unit Cost. For an item using Average costing, this is separate from the actual inventory Unit Cost calculation. Therefore, I would not recommend blocking the Last Direct Cost update itself, because BC also uses that value in parts of its costing logic. If your real requirement is simply “do not automatically propose the previous purchase price on new POs”, the cleaner solution—without using Purchase Price Lists—is a small customization of the purchase-line cost calculation/defaulting so that Direct Unit Cost is left blank/zero (or calculated according to your own rule) instead of falling back to Last Direct Cost. The actual invoice cost entered on the PO will still be used for inventory valuation when posted.

To my knowledge, this can only be achieved through custom development, but you can also submit this feedback to Microsoft.

Hi, if you only want to stop users typing in it, personalisation on the Item Card will hide it, but hidden is not the same as read only. You can do a small page extension on Item Card and set Editable = false on the Last Direct Cost control, then it applies to everybody and it survives upgrades

Last Direct Cost is maintained by the system when a purchase is posted, so making it non-editable only blocks manual typing, BC will still overwrite it after posting.

Glad to help - follow up if anything is unclear.

►  If this solved it, marking it verified helps others too.
