GP Web Client and Adobe Printing

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Greetings!

Is there some incompatibility between GP2015 R2 web client and Adobe acrobat, as far as printing documents go? We are unable to get a proper print when using Adobe as the print destination. The output is always scaled down, as if the page size being sent is smaller. Have tried with different adobe versions and no luck. The issue does not happen when using CutePdf or FoxIT or other 3rd party pdf printers. I have tried making changed to the adobe printer settings, but the page size always stays the same.

Thanks,

Sandeep.

    Hi Beat,

Thank you for the reply. Agreed that Adobe is a beast when it comes to simple functions like printing etc. In our company, unfortunately Adobe is installed on all GP user's PCs since we have the license for the same. But yes, personally i like CutePdf, for it gets the job done, and its free!

Back to my issue, i finally figured it out and it was one of those face palm things :) - i noticed that the DPI setting on every PC had changed to 1200. Setting that to 300 or 600 did the trick and now printing is back to normal. Not sure what changed that, since back when we were on GP2010 printing was fine.

    Regards,

    Sandeep.

    Hi Sandeep,

I've long stopped using Adobe's product line when it comes  to GP client (be it web or full).. . I always install CutePDF or PDF-Creator, as they tend to provide much quicker and better results.

Adobe has become such a big PDF factory that it makes absolutely no sense people are still using it nowadays.. speak about a 350Mb setup to just print a PDF file, what a waste.

Even all the add in function are now sold for a separate bunch of $$'s.. The other day I wanted to use a compare function that used to be part of the old Adobe reader, but alas, it's no longer the case and you have to shed some 4.99 $ I believe to get it from the store.

After Adobe 8.x,, the product started to become unreliable with GP, as we experienced PO's printed half-paged only or missing the embedded logos for example..
