while launching the utilities the server name is not available

Is it an x86 or x64 client? If the latter the System DSN needs to created using %windir%\syswow64\odbcad32.exe and not the one in Control Panel.
If it is GP 2010 then the DSN needs to be the SQL Native Client one and not the old SQL Server one.
If neither of the above apply, can you supply more details of the system and GP version?
