I am changing over from SAP Business One.

I have been able to copy (from excel) a long list of item/inventory codes and paste them into an SAP B1 sales invoice and the rest of the fields populate - then i can copy and paste (from excel) the corresponding quantity sold of each item. We export hundreds of sale items/lines daily from our ecommerce system and then group them in excel by 'item id' and then paste into SAP B1 - it is very easy and simple and removes all need for manual data entry which would take 6-8 hours.

I am changing to MS Dynamics Business edition to be closely integrated with sharepoint (office 365) which is amazing - but we cant change until the copy paste (from excel into grids in invoices/purchase orders/ etc) is enabled.

Surprised SAP does this and not Microsoft - will this be available soon?

Hello,

It sounds like you might want to use the Configuration Packages of which Sales and Purchases are a part of this type of integration. This would allow you to import a Sales Invoice along with their items using Excel. Here's some documentation about Configuration Packages:

When working with Configuration Packages, you can first export a manually created transaction into Excel, so you can see what format is it in and then build off that to bring in Sales Invoices.

If Microsoft Dynamics for Business can do the above then it will be very well adopted by lots of fast growing SMEs who need to 'adapt on the fly' - most new processes/planning are done in excel and then adapted to database systems (i.e. Dynamics) - for SMEs, being able to copy/paste out and back from excel like this is essential. For example, when an order for 300 inventory items is sent to a supplier and the supplier part fulfills the order with 213 items and confirms what is fulfilled by emailing back the spreadsheet that accompanied the order, the SME needs to copy and past the item code into Dynamics and then the Quantity fulfilled(receipted) into Dynamics - SAP B1 has got this part spot on and if Dynamics can enable this also then it is a really practical tool for SMEs. It is not practical to employ extra staff just to do data entry into Dynamics from an excel spreadsheet.

The reality is SMEs are not EDI integrated with their suppliers and don't need/want 'configuration/integration packages' (because their systems/processes for 3rd party communication (orders, deliveries, etc) are constantly growing and evolving), but rather, SMEs and their suppliers are running different system and are used to copying and pasting from excel. So to adopt 'Dynamics for Business', it needs to be able to fit with how SMEs work from day to day - especially fast growing SMEs who are continually evolving their products and processes and excel is the best tool at the front end of developing new areas of business and its systems (in their infancy)..

I hope the Dynamics team can make this feature available in the near future so it is possible to start using Dynamics

And, you can edit data in Excel and publish back to NAV, I doubt SAP B1 can do that :)

Hi,

I tried copy Sales Quote Lines from

1. BC on Chrome to Excel - failed, data was not filling in to the cells.

2. BC on Edge to Excel - perfect -

i tried paste from Excel (exported from point 2 above)

3. to Chrome - perfect

4. to Edge - perfect

note that 1000 is max no. of lines

Conclusion : Use Edge for copy and paste with Excel.
