Migrating the No. Series data from Nav2016 to BC

Background:

I want to carry over 200 "No. Series" entries over when I migrate to BC and I wish to do this 'manually' so that I can sync at zero hour.

I have tried cut and paste via Excel which creates the records but BC messes them up by leaving out the critical 4 fields:Starting No, Ending No, Last Date Used, Last No.Used when pasting

It also has the annoying habit of exporting 'bools' as =FALSE() and =TRUE() but only accepting "Yes" or "No" during paste.

There is no Web API for No. Series (no surprise there)

There is no ODATA V4 API for No. Series

Question:

How do I copy No. Series data from 2016 to BC completely so that the 4 fields that matter get included?

Image shows No. Series with missing fields

Be nice if the version drop down in this BC forum listed BC....

    Hi,

You have to use the No. Series lines for this. Add the Series Code and Clear the filter.

You have to make sure the fields on your NAV2016 and BC are the same in order.

You can also use a configuration package to this instead of copy-paste from and to excel.

Again, Use No. Series Lines instead of just no. Series.

Looking closely at your image, it appears that you have obtained access to full set of "No. Series Lines" for ALL "No. Series"

You do say "Clear the Filter" but your image also shows that the page shown has no filter.

I can only get the Lines by clicking within a single No. Series. No filter is then available and If I paste all my start and end numbers, they are all assigned to the filtered series.

So the question now is: how exactly did you get that view..... or simply, how do I get to "No. Series Lines" to edit them ALL at once

    Hi,

If you open the No. Series Line, it will be filtered by the selected No. Series code. That is why you have to clear the filter. And thats where you can copy and paste the data.

You should use number series lines instead of number series. to copy number series data from 2016 to BC.

    I hope this helps!

I feel that progress is being made but talk about hard work. Please read this carefully as it is detailed.

I've still not got the desired result as you tell me correctly what to do but the issue is HOW.

Firstly it matters HOW you open the No Series Lines from the No. Series. There are two ways I've found for myself:

    1. Click on the '_' which turns out to be a hidden link. This opens the No Series Lines filtered for the current series but offers NO filter dialog. You can enter many Lines but these are all associated with the filtered series. This method is of no use.

    2. In the Series View, click on Navigate and then choose 'Lines' from the sub menu. This again shows the Lines filtered for the current series (although I would argue it shouldn't) but this time there is a filter dialog. HOWEVER this filter is tricky as it offers an unusual option: "Show System Filters". If you click on this you do see a filter present for the current No Series. Removing it and the title bar confirms that there is no filter. This method has promise.

Following method 2. above, you can then paste the required Lines. 202 of them in my case and with a bit of mouse wiggling the system will say that they are saved.  Of course you should paste them in the same order as the original No. Series as you have said.

Great except that when you return to the No. Series, the Lines values don't show. If you look at the Lines for a Series using 1. above there are no values there. In essence, the connection between Lines and Series has not been established by the process of pasting in the required order.

So the question remains unanswered as whilst you have told me enough of what to do, the how to do it is lacking and whilst the Lines are present in the system, they are not associated with the relevant Series, or any series for that matter.

    The interface from hell !.

    Hi,

It's no rocket science. It's just that, you are doing things differently. You can share a teamviewer, so I can show you. Thanks.

    Brilliant!

I have Teamviewer. We just need a time. I'm on GMT+10 and it's Sunday here. I will be out from 10:00 my time (in 3 mins) until 6:00pm my time. If you are in the USA, I wouldn't want to waste your Sunday. Anyway if you would like to suggest a time....

I will have the BC instance up with a spreadsheet also open containing the Lines
