Dear Community,

We're moving from QuickBooks Online to Dynamics Financials.  I exported the COA, but is there a way to move transaction data?

Regards,

Tony

    Hello Anthony,

This isn't built into the migration tool.  I think the expectation is that you move over at a cut-off and start fresh with Beginning balances.

If you wanted to migrate over transactions you could utilize Configuration Packages.  I would recommend consulting with a partner though as I know a lot of them are doing QB migrations and may be able to assist further.  Most of them are familiar with utilizing the Configuration Packages feature as well.

    Thanks,

    Chris

Thanks Chris!  Can you recommend a partner that could advise us on Configuration Packages?

    Tony

    Hello Anthony,

I can't directly recommend one, but there are several on the forums here usually... If any of them want to chime in.  Otherwise you can use this tool:

    www.microsoft.com/.../search

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Anthony,

I'm available for this.  I've used QuickBooks for over 20 years, I've used Financials for nearly a year, I've migrated companies from QB Enterprise and QB Professional to Financials, and I've also found a way to migrate QB G/L history to Financials, if desired.

I can be reached either through email or at 214.392.4797.  You can also take a quick look at what we do migration-wise, at www.pbsisoftware.com.

    Thanks,

    Tony,

The QuickBooks Online Migration extension we have will migrate over outstanding balance transactions for customers and vendors.   It will look to see if there are transactions that have amounts remaining and then will bring them into Dynamics 365 for Financials and you can then verify the information and post them.  We do that for sales invoices, credit memos and payments and Purchase invoices and credit memos.

Hi Jennifer,  Thanks for your response.  Where would I find the QuickBooks Online Migration extension?  I've used the built-in tools to migrate the Chart of Accounts, but I'd like to move over the data you mention above.

    Thanks,

    Tony

Tony, You can find the extension under the data migration navigation using the search feature. If you don't see the QuickBooks online migration in the drop down for options then you can choose the extension management page and load it from app source. If you have already entered transactions the migration will want you to create a new company as we don't allow you to migrate data after transactions have been entered. Thanks, Jen

Hi Jennifer, As way of follow-up I was able to find the QuickBooks Online Migration tool and it's great.  Really appreciate your help!  It appears to move over master records like customers, vendors, chart of accounts.    I'd really like to move over historical transaction data.  Do you know if the Data Migration extension supports this or some other way to migrate that data?

    Kind Regards,

    Tony

We don't bring over historical transactions but we do bring over transactions that have an amount remaining, we bring them in as unposted transactions so you can verify the information and then post them.  As for historical transasctions, you would need to use the configuration package to get the data into Excel and then bring them into the appropriate tables using the configuration package. depending on the type of transaction would determine what tables you would bring the data into.  For examples, sales invoices, would use the sales header and sales line or if you want to bring in customer invoices (no inventory line items) you could just use the general journal line table.  the configuration package allows you only the work tables so you would still need to post the transactions.  And to get then to show paid off you would have to enter the payments as well and then apply them in the system.

    thanks

    Jen
