Dynamics 365 App for Outlook Requirements and Settings

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We are running Dynamics 365 Online, version 1612. We have no upgrades available. We have a few users on server-side sync with a hybrid Exchange environment. However, when I try to follow the documentation to enable the Dynamics 365 App for Outlook, none of the options for it are available. The new privilege does not show up in the list of privileges, the sub-menu is not under Settings, or anything. Am I missing something to enable it globally for my Dynamics instance?

My examples of what I'm following are below from the technet article:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn946901.aspx

The following are required to use Dynamics 365 App for Outlook:

  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online 2016 Update, or December 2016 update for Dynamics 365 (online and on-premises)  (I think we're on the latest available for Dynamics 365 online)

  • Synchronization of incoming email through server-side synchronization. More information: Set up server-side synchronization of email, appointments, contacts, and tasks

(Some, not all, users are on server side sync)

  • Required privileges as described below

(These privileges aren't even showing up as options for our instance. When looking at the security roles and available privileges, under Business Management -> Privacy Related Privileges -> Use Dynamics 365 App for Outlook is NOT an available option. What do I need to do to make it available so that I can grant this privilege to end users?)

    Alan,

Check under the Settings, Security Roles (select the security role you want to apply it to), Business management tab there is a section named Privacy Related Privileges. Be sure to check the Use Dynamics 365 App for Outlook.

    Hope this helps.

Hello. Tenfold can also help in integrating Mircosoft Office 365 and Microsoft and enabling click to dial in Outlook. They also support MS Dynamics integration. Our click to dial also works on webpages opened in Chrome. www.tenfold.com/.../dynamics

    Hi Alan,

We are having the same issue on CRM Online 2016 Update 1 (Build 8.1.0.569). The App is not listed on the Apps for Dynamics CRM page. The App settings button is not under the Settings Area. And the Use Dynamics 365 App for Outlook privilege is not listed.

Interestingly, when using a Site Map editor, I can see the option for the App settings listed. Also, our Sandbox instance is working normally and all the above options show as expected. When using the App settings direct URL (https://<orgname>.crm.dynamics.com/tools/appsforcrm/AppForOutlookAdminSettings.aspx) in Sandbox it works, but it errors in Production.

Based on comments from this post, this issue needs to be resolved by MS Support. Scroll to Brooke's comment to see the relevant issue/solution. community.dynamics.com/.../193749

I submitted a ticket with MS Support and they are currently researching for a resolution. I will update when I hear back from them.
