Bulk Update for Case Owner

dear all

i have the following scenario :

1. i have a workflow on opportunity that runs in certain conditions and creates CASEs

2. this workflow was running in background, thus, the CASE owner was the CRM ADMIN who created the workflow.

3.now i have changed the workflow to RUNTIME, and i need to update the case owner to be same as the originating opportunity owner.

4. my idea is to build an on-demand process and run it using XRMtool

the problem is that OWNER is not shown in the workflow to set its value (please check the following

You are looking at the create case form there which doesn't display the owner. The owner of the case will be the person who creates the case which in your case will be either the person who runs the workflow or the owner of the workflow (and the latter is the only option if it was ran in the background).

Hence you will need to create a Real Time workflow that runs on demand and ensure that the Execute as bit is set to the user who made the changes (i.e. the user who triggered the workflow).

    Hi Ahmad,

The workflow editor only shows you field which you have placed in your form. If it is not visible in editor then this means you haven't added it to the form body. However even if you add the owner field to the body, you won't be able to update the owner field. This is because in order to change the owner, you need to use the "Assign" step of workflow (not update) which takes the value from either user or team. You can use this step and in the properties, set the owner of the originating opportunity.

Below is the sample screenshot of assign request-

    Hope this helps.

thanks Ben, but i am not talking about creating a new case, in my situation, i was looking to update the owner of existing cases.

anyway, it is resolved now via ASSIGNing the right owner in an on-demand workflow.

    thanks to you and Ravi.

    regards.
