Hi,
You can restrict the connection role based on specific entities as mentioned above. Once this is done, the lookup only shows the applicable connection role for the entity i.e. if you select account then it will show connections applicable to account entity. There is a default view called "Applicable connection role" which you can use.
The other option if you want to display only specifc record, you can create a view and then select that view under the lookup properties.

When creating or modifying a connection role you can select record types to restrict a connection role to a single entity or many entities.
