GP2016 Upgrade

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I went from GP2013 version 12.00.2014 to GP2016. I upgraded successfully with no errors. Ran GP utilities no errors. When I started GP2016 it said I needed to run GP utilities again. I checked

select * From DYNAMICS..DB_Upgrade

--where PRODID = 0

order by [db_verBuild] --[db_name],prodid

and noticed the db_verBuild did not change, its still at 2014. Not sure what happened.

If you are at version lever 2104 you must install this service pack to get GP2016 installed

Finally the error showed up. This is the error I get from running utilities,

Product 0 does not support upgrading from version 12.0.2104.

Version 2104 is better than 1826.

No users since this is a cloned/ test box

    Version is 2104

    No locks

Had the system set up the ODBC when installing GP2016, yes pointing to GP2013 tables

Will need to do dex.sql log

GP Utilities ran fine no error messages.

I put in a ticket with Microsoft Support, let's see what they find. Running out of ideas.

    RE: GP2016 Upgrade

    Hi Michael

I just quickly tried upgrading one of my GP 2013 R2 instances to GP 2016 and had no problem.

Here are some troubleshooting steps I would follow:

Check that there are no users in the Dynamics Activity table

Check the version in the DU000020 file  (select * from DU000020 where PRODID = '0'

Make sure that there are no lock files in the Dynamics DuLck table

Make sure the ODBC driver that you have for Dynamics GP 2016 is pointing to the SQL instance where you have the GP 2013 databases

You may want to start a dex.sql log file to help trouble shoot this.  (KB850996)

After you start the GP 2016 Utilities what messages do you get?

    Hi Michael

I just reread your original question and noticed that you have ver 12.00.2014 installed.

My notes for upgrade paths have 12.00.2038 as being able to upgrade to GP 2016 RTM anything else requires an upgrade to 12.00.2038 or going to GP 2015 R2  14.00.725 first.

Have you looked at your duinstall.log file for trouble shooting?  (C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP2013\Data)

Did that, did not work. It appears to be stuck in a loop. Somehow utilities failed to update the build version. Each time I try to launch GP, it tells me to run GP utilities. This is a test system with a snap shot before the GP upgrade.

    MIchael

Relaunch your Dynamics GP 2016 Utilities, make sure that you right click and use Run as Administrator.

I have seen Utilities not run properly because the run as administer was not used.

Also, I presume you have a backup of your databases?
