Electronic report with filtering and grouping

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

Hi All,

I am trying to create an electronic report, but I am struggling with filtering and grouping on multiple tables.

My ultimate goal is have something like this:

User input: DateTimeUserInput

Filtering on: GeneralJournalEntry.AccountingDate = DateTimeFromUserInput

Grouped on: DimensionAttributeValueCombination.MainAccountValue, DimensionAttributeValueCombination.Dimension1Value, DimensionAttributeValueCombination.Dimension2Value, ...

Aggregated Field: Sum(GeneralJournalAccountEntry.AccountingCurrencyAmount)

I added a table records data source type (GeneralJournalEntry), a calculated field to filter, a user input parameter and a grouped by. In the calculated field i filter on a value from GeneralJournalEntry and in my Group by i group of fields from the tables GeneralJournalAccountEntry and DimensionAttributeValueCombination, which I select from the relations of my table records.

I can't seem to get it to work, I allways get the amount of results from the table GeneralJournalEntry and not my entire result. I am guessing that I should add all tables I want to use, but I can't figure out how to use the 'join' data source type.

I also tried to get results with only the calculated field which filters, and bind fields from lower laying tables via relations, but the same result.

And a last thing i tried, is to start from another table, but no succes either.

Any ideas?

    Hello JonasD,

It sounds as if you try to generate a trial balance like report.

What it it that you try to achieve?

Would be great if you could clarify.

    Many thanks and best regards,

    Ludwig

The best approach with ER is baby steps.

Step 1 verify the filter works. Once the XML output looks ok continue to the next step.

Step 2 verify the grouping works. Again with a simple mapping. Once the XML looks ok go to step 3.

Step 3 verify the aggregate works.

When you have the correct output then you can generate the file format and complete your export.

    Hi Ludwig,

I'm trying to create a report, where the user enters a date and he receives an export of the balance of all dimension value combinations with their debit and credit value.

    Kind regards,

    Jonas

    Hi Jonas,

This is what the trial balance list page does.

Have you checked that functionality in the GL module?

I don't think that you have to create an electronic report for that because the functionality is already there.

If you desperately want to have an electronic report :-) then have a look at the default 'Ledger account balance report format (CN)' report. It is a country specific report for China but you can easily make it available for other countries.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
