Win7 64 Bit VM hosting database?

Posted on by 370

Aloha,

Is anyone hosting their database on a Win7 64 bit machine? I am wanting to host our RMS database on a Win 7 64 bit VM (ESXi 5), SQL 2005 standard. The virtual machine has dual processors and 8gb RAM. There are only 12 clients that will be served by this database. Initial tests have proven successful, but I am wondering if anyone has done this or if there are any gotcha's I am not thinking about. I have a solid backup solution in place and the hypervisor server is brand new and will only be hosting two other light use virtual machines.

Many Thanks!

Tony

Thanks, Jeff! Nice to know someone else is successfully doing this.

I am comfortable moving forward, even with the knowledge that Microsoft will not support the configuration.

It will not be supported by Microsoft.

We have it working in-house without issues.
