I have a question about how the Sharepoint updates affect anything with Business Portal.
Since I need to install the updates for Sharepoint Foundation 2010, Search Server 2010 Express, and the Sharepoint language packs to be compatible with SQL 2012, are there any negative consequences with Business Portal?

There shouldn't be any negative consequences with BP from the updates. We have tested BP 5.1 SP3 on SQL 2012 and we are compatible with it. And if these updates are needed for compatiblity with SQL 2012 then we would have covered them in our testing.
