Collections Management for GP 2013 Installation in two Separate Instances

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I have installed GP 2013 and Collections Management into my test environment as a single instance with no issues.  However, I have installed a second instance of GP that will be used for our UK (English) users that contains the applicable language pack.  When I try to run the GP 2013 DVD and add CM to my UK instance it says its already installed and I won't continue.  In the past versions I have copied a .CNK file to my GP directory manually and launched the GP client in order to add the required code.  And I briefly recall taking the Dynamics.set file from an install that includes it and copying it and the applicable .dic files to the non-working or non-updated install directory and that seemed to have worked.  I am not sure with CM being part of Prof Advantage if this would still work or if there was a better way to get this to work?  I am not keen on all the CM files and dictionaries that may need copying so if that is a feasible solution I would appreciate the files names to be copied.

Thanks

Hey again William.  Thanks again for your help.  Just a follow up in case others read these posts in the future.  I actually contacted PA and they sent me registration keys at no cost.  They are included if you are paid up on your GP enhancement (which makes sense).  I did include the .CNK into my UK install and followed the installation steps from PA's website and it seems to have worked.  I even have my USA install with the GP DVD CM files loaded and it still seems to work fine.  I may try to get the PA files loaded into my USA install just for consistency sake.  The one caveat was the PA install instructions aren't clear on the need to copy the .dat and .idx files into the GP > Data directory before you run the Install  Stored Procedures step.

If you are installing the old Collections Management that Microsoft used to release, you will have to go to Microsoft to get it and see if they have a chunk file for the UK release.

Otherwise you can contact Professional Advantage for the new code release (which you have to pay for), but they wouldn't be able to provide chunks for the old Microsoft release.

    Hope that helps,

    William

    William,

I don't think the CM installation media will work because when I have TWO instances of GP installed on the same server and when I try to launch the .msi it says its already installed.  So the PA chunk file might be a better option because I can drop the .CNK into the 2nd instance and run it as an administrator and it may load.  I found some info on changing the registry to specify which instance of GP to run the .msi files but it doesn't seem to work.  I will go on the PA website to hopefully find the CM .CNK but if you know of a way to find it faster I would appreciate the info.  Thanks

    Thanks Ryan,

That one is fine. I ask because Professional Advantage released a new version at the start of June that is installed through chunk files.

You can install Collections Management from the GP2013 Installation media. I recommend you try opening it up and go to the AdProd folder, and inside of that is a Collections Management folder with the setup file.

It is also available as the last option on the GP Setup Splash Screen:

Also, make sure you are on Service Pack 1 or above:

Hi William.  I am using the one from the GP Install DVD.  Am I not suppose to use that one?  It seemed to work ok on my first instance install.

    Hello Ryan,

Are you using Collections Management from the GP Install DVD, or the new one direct from Professional Advantage?
