Client wants to discontinue use of multi-currency.

Posted on by 75,730

We have a client who has been running GP by the seat of their pants for years. All they do is process sales orders despite our pleas to allow us to get them up and running properly. Their previous reseller turned on multi-currency even though it is not needed. Would it make any difference if we were to create a new company but not grant access to Z-US$ or install a fresh instance of SQL and install GP without multi-currency in this instance. Can multi-currency be turned off once it has been turned on?

Beat, this is one of those situations where by ignoring our advice for 10+ years there exists such a mess it will be cheaper to start over. I am going to quote this both ways and let the client decide. The FRAM oil filter man will be hard at work on this one.

    Hi Richard,

you might be able to turn it off, though I've never seen this... there is a lot of processes involved when turning on MC, and I know that many companies that haven't setup MC from the get-go sometimes run into troubles when they finally decide to enable MC, as checklinks needs to be run to make sure the MC references are added everywhere in GP where it's needed.

Doing the opposite seems contra-productive to me, but I may be wrong..

Creating a new environment and create new companies is unlikely going to resolve the problem..  If you want to start from scratch, you'd basically have to setup a whole new GP instance with a new system database, as MC is deeply entrenched in the system DB and affecting all companies... Once a new GP instance is setup, you may be able to re-import all the data, but carefully leave out MC references..

I did some quick search and apparently our friend Mariano Gomez has blogged about it back in 2009: dynamicsgpblogster.blogspot.com/.../effects-of-disabling-multicurrency.html
