Dynamics GP 10.0 using App-V

Posted on by 80

Hi, I was wondering if anyone know of any White papers or KB's that directly address the deployment of Dynamics GP 10 using App-V.?

Or does anyone have any advise on how this should be done using their past experience?

Thanks in advance!

See the link below for a post that discusses using Dynamics GP 10.0 as a remote app on Server 2008.  It discusses some compatibility issues, and there is a link to a hotfix that was released. Don't know of any compatibility issues with GP2010.

Has anyone pursued this further?  I have created an App-V project for GP and for 98%^ of all the functionality is working.  My issues are found in the OLE container and Office documents.

I have added MS Office on the Sequencer machine and all worked while creating that process; however, once it is streamed to the clients, only Adobe and other file types work as they should but Office files have an issue in Opening and editing in the OLE container.

We are using GP 10 SP4 still.  I wonder if the GP2010 OLE container is updated?

No problem.  I know that one of my TS guys showed me how easy it was and I was pretty impressed.

Our experience (even though I was not hands on with it) was EXTREMELY straight forward.  Fire up a Windows Server 2008 box that has TS 2008 running.  Make sure that the App Gateway component is installed.  From the App Gateway console, you pretty much just search for the .exe you are looking to virutalize and then it does the rest.

I am sorry but I dont' have any white papers and couldn't easily find them on Microsoft's site.

Yes we want to deploy GP virtually and control the installation once, not on lots of workstations and giving users "power-user" rights when we shouldn't have to.

I wasn't sure if there was any documentation on how to do this, what we needed to do and the time frame it would take to do it.

If I am not mistaken, that is the technology behind Application Gateway.  App Gateway will allow you to deploy applications that appear to run on the user's desktop, but are actually running in a virtual environment.  The applications can be delivered through an installable package, web page link, etc.

Is that what you are asking about?

Talking about Microsoft Application Virtualization (http://www.microsoft.com/systemcenter/appv/default.mspx)

Are you talking about Terminal Server 2008 Application Gateway?
