Regarding fields

Posted on by 5

Hi,

We are undergoing an implementation of Dynamics 365 to be more precise a PowerApp (forgive my language I'm not technical).

We have an issue in that currently an Activity only has one Regarding field which means we can only connect that Activity to one Timeline. We want to be able to make an Activity eg a Phone Call and link this to multiple entities and their relevant timelines.

As an example I make a phone call to Joe Bloggs to discuss Tim Smith from Company Limited about requirement X.

I want this Phone Call to show on the Timelines of Joe Bloggs, Tim Smith, Company Limited and Requirement X. Is that possible?

I hope that makes sense.

Thanks in advance

Thanks Rodrigo, yes I'm well and hope you are too?

I feared this was the case; it seems so restrictive in an age of so much interconnected data that one can't in the backend release the regarding field to take as many associations as the user wants. I can barely think of interactions or calls that have only involved the parties on the call it almost always involves other companies, people and opportunities. You'd then want any user of the system to be able to instantly see those connections from whatever angle they are approaching that 'network'.

Is it really impossible to open the 'Regarding' field up?

Thanks for your help on this

    Hi BristolUK how are you?

BristolUK , my understanding here is that you want a way to connect another kind of records to this phone call. The regarding attribute only allow us to select one record, this is by design.

What maybe you can try to use is the connection roles as documented on https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/common-data-service/configure-connection-roles

Using this feature you can create specific roles to connect different types of records in  a role and see those records in related tab but unfortunately you can not add this entity on timeline of all records.

I hope that this workaround could be a way to achieve your requirement.

    Regards.
