How to add line descriptions to VAT entries

Hi, 
 
When I choose the Calculate and Post VAT settlement and toggle the 'Show VAT entries' on I don't see any descriptions on the lines, which is needed by the authorities. Is there any way to include some sort of description on those lines?

    VAT Entries in Business Central do not include detailed line descriptions. you can include descriptions with a customization.

    Maybe this will help clarify.
     
    By default, VAT entries created during VAT settlement don’t include detailed line descriptions, as the system posts them as summary entries.
     
    Possible Solutions:
     
    1. Manual Entry Descriptions
    After posting the VAT settlement, you can manually add descriptions in the G/L Entries or General Journal if required for compliance.
     
     
    2. Use Custom Posting Logic
    If you need descriptions generated automatically, you’ll likely need a customization that extends the VAT settlement codeunit to add custom descriptions per VAT entry.
     
     
    3. Reference Original Entries
    Use drill-down from the VAT entries to the original documents or transactions for detailed descriptions during audits.
     
     
     
    There’s no standard setting to auto-add line-level descriptions in VAT settlement entries, so a small customization is your best option if it's mandatory.

    Hello,

    As per my understanding in Business Central, when you run the Calculate and Post VAT Settlement batch job and toggle Show VAT Entries, the system displays VAT entries but does not include detailed descriptions by default.


    Unfortunately, in the standard functionality, there is no option to automatically populate descriptions on those VAT settlement lines in the general journal. The entries are posted to the general ledger without descriptive text unless it is manually entered or customized.

    A lightweight customization can be implemented as per your requirement to auto-fill the Description field with details such as the settlement period or VAT posting group, to meet audit or legal requirements.

    If description detail is a legal requirement in your jurisdiction, a customization may be the most reliable approach.
