I attempted to move assets from one company to another and I wanted to keep the current asset ID. I did not have the destination company set to auto assign the asset number however when I tried to transfer I received a message that it was unable to generate an asset ID. The destination company currently has no assets.
According to the manual, "If the option is unmarked, the existing asset ID for the asset in the originating company is used for the asset general record in the destination company.

Sorry this was not my problem, I had created one asset so the asset index table was populated before I attempted the transfer.
I think what you are running into is what anyone who has worked with Great Plains knows about Fixed Assets, for some reason the very first asset needs to be entered into the system and then it will bring in the rest of the assets. Everyone gets this on any upload when there are no assets in the system. Normally, I have entered in an asset and then if I have to purge that one asset out of the system after I have loaded in all of my other assets.
