Warehouse/Inventory Set Up

Hi,

Can anyone point me to a good video tutorial on setting up a warehouse. We are having massive issues with our system and I think it streams back to our set up.

Below are a few of the issues we are having.

- Reservations, When creating a sales order, it is pulling stock from purchase orders that already have reservations. Meaning we are not being flagged to order stock. we are having to check every single line at processing to see if we physically have the item or if its over reserving.

-Inventory movements - The system doesn't seem to be calculating correctly. Say we bought 2 in, sold 2 out it would still show a balance of 2.

-Inventory 'Sales Orders' , When checking in inventory, clicking sales orders it will show you every sales order that item is on... even if it's not an outstanding item on the particular sales order.

-Invoicing/Shipments, When going to invoice you have to remove multiple reservations just to ship an item out.

Do we even need to use reservations??

Ideally what I would like is.

- Order keyed by CS

- Warehouse run a print run - This will print all sales orders where stock has physically allocated, Even if it's only partial stock.

- We run an 'Order' print - This will identify where stock needs to be ordered for sales orders.

Is this possible?? I am finding this system is unnecessarily complicated.

Thank you

    Hi

We are dealing with business central here, am I correct? I am surprised about the issue you have here. I believe this is a matter of setup, especially at item card level. Are you using reserve = always? What is your reordering policy, how did you setup order modifiers etc etc.. all these matters to manage

Not sure to understand why you need to remove reservation to invoice here. Seems strange to me

Maybe some general links to start with:

    Hi Jerome

Thank you for responding. Yes we are using Business Central. I agree there is definitely some foundational issues. The company I work for bought the program before I started with them, the problem is they were sold on all the functions it could do, not the base program they bought and have since had to invest quite a substantial amount only to have it still not working and no one is able to offer functional answers on how to fix it.

The item cards are a mess, anything new I have set to reserve always but can’t say it would be for everything.

Currently our ordering is very Manual. I do want to set mins and Max’s for stock holding.

When invoicing it pops up with an error saying X stock is not available. Once you remove the reservations against the stock. It lets you invoice. This happens even if there is ample stock to cover all orders.

I know I need to start right back at the beginning. The problem now is there has been so much money invested in the program initially and no support. Just more if you spend this we can add X feature but no support to get it actually working.

Thanks for the links. I will check them out.

    Hi

what is your actual version here? If you have reserve = always, it means that you need to get something available to reserve. All details here:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../design-details-reservation-order-tracking-and-action-messaging

So I don't know why you need to cancel some resa to be able to invoice... According to your feedback, it looks like classic setup, adding reservation. I am not sure around location setup. Is it basic as well? Are you using bins for example? Sometimes, we feel that we have enough available quantities, but sometimes they are there but not available due to some reasons, like if you need to pick but qties are in dedicated bin etc etc... So it looks like quite hard to help here without complete scenario setup and steps to be able to see what could be wrong. Do you have access to support team to create a support request? There, you could for example share a scenario with  a specific setup related to item, location, then to share around stock. Starting from this, then we could try to help.
