CRM 2016 - our phones access our sites via a VPN and can access CRM on-premise application. Many blogs suggest to get the phone app (Android) to work we need to install ADFS and IFD. Why if they are in a secure network already? Is there any way to connect without ADFS/IFD ? Third party software?

Thanks Mohamed for your response....error I am getting: "HTTP Error 401 - Unauthorized: Access is denied". We use AD to authenticate user into our corp network and I can connect via this Android phone to our CRM on-premise (as Admin) but not through the phone app. We are trying to not use ADFS and IFD.
Have you tested and it didn't work? Mobile phones are not in a secure network unless you have device authentication.
Usually companies require ADFS to secure mobile access to ensure device authentication. Users can also export data from the Dynamics App locally to the device, which is a security risk.
