Hi All,

I was checking and there was a similar query raised in 2018 about copying a Service Order. Not sure whether Microsoft has implemneted that or has any plan to.
Service Orders as of today does not have a Copy Document functionality ,can someone please verify if there is a plan to do so or an extension is the best solution.

Regards,
Indira

    Hi Indira,

It's not something i've seen either as a new feature or on the road map for Microsoft. I would look into ISV solutions or a customization in order to manage this.

If you need to create recurring service orders based off a contract you can always create a service order based off a contract using standard processes. This won't really work for one-off scenarios but works for recurring maintenance scenarios.

As far as I know, this feature is not yet included in the standard; you can submit this idea to Microsoft.

    Hello Indira,
I checked the current Business Central documentation and published release plans, and Copy Document is still not available for Service Orders. Microsoft has added other service-management improvements, such as archiving service documents and enhancements to contract service orders, but I could not find any announced plan to introduce Service Order copying. Therefore, an AL extension is currently the practical solution; it can add a Copy Service Order action and copy the header, service item lines, service lines, dimensions, comments, and other required information while generating a new order number. You can also submit or vote for this functionality through the Business Central Ideas portal.

Hi Indira, no, still not there natively, as far as I know. Copy Document works fine for Sales and Purchase, but Service module never got the same treatment, this comes up a lot on ideas.dynamics.com and I haven't seen it land in any release notes so far. I wouldn't hold my breath on Microsoft adding it soon either, service orders don't get as much attention as sales/purchase in the roadmap generally.
So realistically an extension is the way to go, some people build a simple codeunit that reads the source Service Header/Lines and inserts new ones, similar logic to Copy Sales Document just custom-built for service tables. There are also a few AppSource apps already doing exactly this if you don't want to build it yourself.

One caveat, service items and service item lines don't carry over as cleanly as sales lines do, so test that part carefully if the order has service items linked.

Glad to help - follow up if anything is unclear.
►  If this solved it, marking it verified helps others too.
