Dynamics GP10 with Business Portal upgrading to GP2015 with Web client

Posted on by 1,145

We have a client running GP10.0 with BP. They use BP to enter Time and Expenses. I know I cannot go from GP10 to GP2015 and I must to an interim upgrade to GP2010 or GP2013. My question is, do I also need to upgrade BP for the interim upgrade, or when I do the final upgrade to GP2015 and configure the Web client all will be ok.

Please let me know if additional information is required.

Joe

Mahmoud is that due to the fact that BP holds no data and that all data is held in the Dynamics GP databases?

I wanted to ask the same question about Personal Data Keeper, but it seems a fore-drawn conclusion that if BP holds no data, then neither would PDK.

So, when we are ready to move to Web Client (GP2015) we have to push all timesheets and expense claims and what ever other BP related transaction that need to be moved into the system and then cut off the use of BP and start to use Web Client.

Seems to simple - yes I know the WC is a great deal of configuration - we are working over that right now.

My personal advice would be to upgrade Dynamics GP according to the supported path and start using the web client. I see no value at all from upgrading the business portal.

    Mahmoud,

Thanks for your response. My struggle is, I am planning a test upgrade and I do not know what to do with BP. I understand it is no longer available in GP2015 and the client will be able to use the Web Client to enter time and expenses to replace the functionality they are currently using in BP. Do I have to upgrade BP to a compatible version that will work with GP2010 or GP2013 before I upgrade to GP2015, or can I skip this and just upgrade GP10 to GP2010 or GP2013 then to GP2015 and use the Web client?

When upgrading to Dynamics GP 2015, you will no longer be able to use the Business Portal, it has been replaced by the new workflow engine introduced in Dynamics GP 2013 R2, here is an important reference to consider Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 – Functionality discontinuation notice
