sql 2008 r2 upgrade

Posted on by 285

We have a GP 2010 system with all the latest patches and it runs against a SQL 2008 instance.  I want to upgrade the instance to SQL 2008 R2 and was curious if there were any pre or post steps that needed to be done for this upgrade to be successful, or is it just a matter of doing the SQL upgrade and everything is good to go?  Thanks.

Thanks for the response, those are the requirements I referenced first.  Thanks for the version specific verification, I appreciate it.

    Hello Todd,

Dynamics GP 2010 is compatible with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP 1 or later - Enterprise, Standard, Workgroup or Express Editions, 32-bit or 64-bit.

This is regardless of build for Dynamics GP 2010.

    Thank you,

Wondering if I might get a response on this old thread - I've got a specific reply.  I'm trying to confirm that GP2010 version 11.00.1667 is compatible with SQL 2008 R2.

    Thank you Jivtest.

Pwhx2, let us know if you have any further questions on this. Thank you

Derek has already explained to you about compatibility.

I have never run into a problem upgrading SQL 2008 to R2, but still I do the following -

    1. Backup the Databases (System, Dynamics and Company)

    2. Backup the logins  (Use the script from Microsoft  kb 918992)

As far as Dynamics GP 2010 goes, it is compatible with both SQL 2008 and SQL 2008 R2, so it won't affect Dynamics GP if you upgrade to SQL 2008 R2.

If you were/are setting up a new SQL instance for SQL 2008 R2, I'd only say that the install needs to be identical to the SQL collation/sort order that the Dynamics GP were created on.

    Thanks
