Dynamics 365 Business Central: Service update failed

Hello,

I've been in admin center, trying to get my sandbox to upgrade from 25.5.30849.33022 to Available Update Version 26.0.30643.32100 but it is not working, and I get the emails stating this happens if I'm outside the update window (I'm not, having checked the box to ignore it) or a capacity problem (not sure this is what it's talking about, but I went into capacity and have used less than 25% of available storage capacity) or "if updates are currently postponed".  I'm not sure about this last one, where can we look to see if Microsoft has postponed updates?

Any other suggestions?

Thank you,
EmilyH

Dynamics 365 Business Central: Service update failed
Thank you both for the information!  I appreciate it but still have a problem:

I cannot wait until next release; I need to upgrade our apps to the current BC26 version.

The email with the message "The Dynamics 365 Business Central service update failed" included the following:

The scheduled update to Dynamics 365 Business Central version 26.0 for the environment ABCD1 couldn’t be completed within the update window set on the environment for the scheduled date

This happens if the updates to version 26.0 are postponed, when your update started but couldn’t complete before the end of the update window, or when capacity constraints prevented us from starting the update.

If updates are currently postponed, the environment will be updated on the next scheduled attempt if updates have resumed by then.

If your update couldn’t be completed because the update window expired, you can verify the period your update has been running on the Operations page in the Dynamics 365 Business Central admin center. You can allow the update to run longer by extending the environment’s update window, or by setting the flag to allow the update to run outside the maintenance window when rescheduling it for a successful next attempt.

If your update couldn’t start due to capacity constraints, it’ll retry during the next scheduled attempt.

We’ll automatically reschedule your environment to be updated seven days from today. You’ll receive a separate message confirming that your update has been rescheduled, after which you can reschedule from the Dynamics 365 Business Central admin center.

I didn't receive any emails either like the one we got for the postponement of 24.5; since the message above refers to "updates postponed" I was looking for more info on that.  It does not sound like that is the problem.

I choose this every time I attempt the upgrade:

    Capacity is good:

I checked in Service Health and everything looks "Healthy", except for Exchange Online and Microsoft Purview but neither of those is relevant. Message Center does not have anything related within the last 48 hours, except for the messages I've received in emails like the one above.

I have Restarted the environment and scheduled the Upgrade again but that failed.

It is set to retry in the morning and I'm hoping a new day does the trick.  If not, I'll do the new support request per instruction from Ramesh.

If there are any other ideas, things to check, or something above looks wrong - please let me know.
    Thank you!

As far as I know, the current update has not been postponed. If postponed, the administrator will receive an email similar to the following.
    More details:
Dynamics 365 Business Central postponed updates history

As for the capacity issue, please refer to the blog below.
Dynamics 365 Business Central: What happens when the capacity limit is exceeded (Exceeding capacity quota)

In addition, I did not encounter your problem when I tested it two days ago, but it cannot be ruled out that it is a Microsoft problem, so you can wait for 26.1 to come out and upgrade directly to 26.1 to try.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

Go to: [Dynamics 365 Business Central Admin Center > Environments > Select Sandbox]

Under Updates, check if there’s a message like:

“Update is postponed” or “Update will be rescheduled” You can also check:

    Microsoft Service Health Dashboard

(Go to Health → Service Health in Microsoft 365 admin center and look under Business Central) Look for any advisory about updates being delayed for certain tenants or regions.

If you're still stuck, and none of the above apply, submit a support ticket through the Admin Center → Help & Support → New support request to get confirmation if your tenant is affected by any internal Microsoft postponements.

    Thanks, Ramesh
