Form Modifcation

Posted on by 22,647

OK, this is a rookie question, I have been in GP forever, and I can not figure out what I am missing.

We have a request to make the Pay To field on the Miscellaneous Check  - window CM_Print_Quick_Check - larger.  Currently the field is Pay To and it is STR30

How can I make it larger?  Can I make it 50 characters?

Looking at the wrong table - you are correct - my wish factor overrode my reality check and I only saw what I wanted.

    Thanks for the correction.

    Hi Bill,

Where are you looking to find the 50 to 60 characters? I'm using the 'Paid To' field. That field is found in three tables - CMQuickCheck_StubDuplicate_TEMP, CMQuickCheck_TEMP and CMQuickCheckTRX_TEMP.  Each of those tables show a String 30 for the Paid To field.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

When we looked at the Database it appears that the field would allow 50 to 60 characters?  What did I miss?

Second.  If I create a custom field or is it called a local field, will that not print correctly on the form and save the first 30 characters to the table?

I guess I am not as clear on this as I should be - but thanks for starting me in the right direction.

    Hi Bill,

Unfortunately, you cannot change the size of the actual field. The field is a String 30 DataType object and if you increased the length of it, it would not return the correct record size and the system could bomb.

With the magic of modifier, you could create a calculated field for your client to enter in the name, and then use VBA to modify the report so the check would print with the elongated name. Just out of the box, you can only store the first 30 characters in the table, so you might consider using the DUOS table to store the entire name.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
