Using BC desktop client with cloud deployment

Hi there,

I have a Business Central subscription with Microsoft and use the web client, however I would like to also try and use the desktop client with my cloud deployment. What values would I put for Server Computer Name, Instance Name, Client Services Port, Credential Type, [Web Server Components] Port, etc?

Thanks so much for your help,

Nick

What do you mean by desktop client ? If you are using cloud SaaS, you only need to login with your Office 365 account. It will log you in automatically by your account. There is no server to setup.

I mean the actual desktop client that comes with the on-premises version of BC. I would like to try out using that old-style client with my cloud install - is this possible or not something Microsoft allows?

You cannot use both On-Prem & SaaS in once instance.

You will have to do the old style installation on you desktop.

The on-premise client is only used for on-premise version. It is not possible for cloud. The old-style client is gone for cloud.

Thanks Teddy, that is disappointing to say the least but I really appreciate your help.

D365 Business Central Subscription comes with Dual Rights - your partner can request On-Premises licensing but you will need to install it into a full server environment.  You can then install the web-client and have a client experience.  The Windows Client is not being supported much longer so I would recommend the web-client version.
