Field level security - field specfic security roles

Posted on by 170

Hello,

A user (B) in a branch business unit can normally access his own business unit contacts but not contacts in other business unites.

A user  (A) in the HQ  business unit can access all contacts in the organization.

I would like to enable user B to read all contact names, so he could see that a name exists but he wouldn't be able to know anything about that contact since all other fields are hidden entirely or the content is starred (***).

Is it possible with a combination of team security roles, user security roles and field level security to achieve field-level security roles?

How?

I would like to achieve it to enable duplicate detection rules take effect on organization level.

    Hi Guillaume,

that sounds like a promising idea, I think it could be reduced to creating a new form for contacts and enabling form specific security roles? all users can access the second form with limits for the main form.

    I'm still mulling the idea..

thank you for your suggestion, I'll wait for further thoughts on the matter.

    Kind Regards

    Hikmat

    Hi Hikmat,

another solution would be to create a new entity which only contains the full name of the contact. All user would have an organizational read access to it.

Then what you do is to create an OOTB workflow wich runs after creating/updating a contact which then create/update a record in this new entity.

Finally your user could search through this entity to know if the contact already exists.

    Hi Hikmat,

as you have a very very specific requirement, there is no OOB solution for your case(at least that I know of).

    Hi Guillaume,

enabling duplicate detection rules will not help, as they work only with records that a user has access to.

Building a search tool isn't within my experties yet. Do you have an OOB solution?

    Thanks

    Hi,

    as I see your requirement,

    1) you better enable the duplicate detection rules to avoid duplicate.

    2) or you build like a search tool webressource which will run under Admin rights and give the user a response that a contact is already existing with the same name.
