When the version of an app changed in BC, what happens to other app that has dependencies on the former app?

Hi experts,

As the question mentioned above, I have a concern on this. Because the former developer created a big app file (Eg: Sales Production) in BC extension, and there are quite some report extension which have the dependencies on this Sales Production app. And now my problem is I need to modify some field properties in Sales Production app, so I need to change the version as well, does it affect all those app that have dependencies on this Sales Production app?

**because the Sales Production app has more than 30 extensions in it and it is in live now, that's why I'm worried of data loss

    Hi, If you update this app and do not update the dependencies in app.json of other apps. It will not affect anything. Other apps dependent on it can still use old .app

    But if you want other dependent apps to use updated app then you need to update dependencies. 

    Data loss will occur if you have removed a field or shorten size of table field.

    If you want to use the new functionality then you need to update the version otherwise you don't need to update the dependencies.
