Field Permissions - Account Entity - Field Security Profiles

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello

Within our Form for Account Entity (for example) we have specific fields that we wish to be read only for the majority of our staff members.  So for these particular fields we have tagged them as Read Only with in the behavioural properties of that field.

The Operations Manager who has an Overall Security Profile ( System Administrator) does need to be about to edit the fields that we have restricted to read only for the rest of the team.

So we have gone into Field Security Profiles and Create a Team specifically for this scenario, we have then selected the field that is required to be edited by the Operations Manager under Field Permissions and Selected yes to Allow to Read, Yes to Allow Update and Yes to Allow Create.

However both the Dynamics 365 Online Version and Dynamics 365 APP will not allow this person access and still appears as Read Only.  Is there a trick to Security Profiles that we have missed in this set up?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

    Hi,

Have you made the field editable from field properties? If the field property is readonly then it will be readonly for all.

    Hope this helps.

Are you seeing key icon next to the fields?

“Read - No” fields will appear like password with (....)

“Edit - No” fields will be disabled

    Hi Arun,

I have gone through and created two separate Security Profiles.  And attached a Team to each of these Security Profiles.  I have then attached to the Security Profiles Field Permissions and gone through each field selecting YES/NO to Read, Write, Create relevant to the Security Profile.

I have given each Team a Management Role.

I have them click on Publish of Customizations via the Customization section however those persons in my Security Profile and subsequent Team do not appear to have had their Security Profile Updated as their access still allows them to Edit & Create on the fields.

Is there another layer that I need to update or Publish so the users are granted the correct permissions for their roles.

    With thanks

Form field behavior will disable the field anyway, so Field level security cannot allow them to edit. Remove this behavior.

Use 2 field security profiles, Read-only for regular users & Edit (or use Sys. Admin FLS profile) for Ops Managers.
