RMS v2 + Hotfix 40 / Disable "All Items" screen to scan products

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi folks,

I'm running RMS v2 + Hotfix 40.

Silly question, due to some store clerks don't pay attention when scanning items.

They usually have the "All Items" screen up (F2) and they accidentally scan an item and the wrong item gets added to the item list.

Is it possible to have RMS not scan items when the "All Items" screen is up on the screen?

Thanks,

...Alex

Run Store Operations Manager, File, Configuration, Options, Item options, enable 'Always display Find window for Items'. Close POS and go back in.
Now when a cashier selects F2 Lookup the Find form will appear. If a scanned product is not found, the Find form will not close so a wrong item cannot be added to the POS screen. The Find form also remembers which fields you select for subsequent lookups such as Item Lookup Code, Description, and Alias.

The downside to this method is Find does not display or locate assembly or matrix class codes. Find only locates individual items, but that is the type of item associated with a barcode scan.

    Ed, excellent idea.

We plan to disable the "OK" button on the Lookup Screen.

Our Datalogic flatbed scanners are USB.

IF your scanner is keyboard type, the short answer is NO.  I assume it is if you are having this problem.  scanner usually hooks up via USB or PS2 port.

You can however secure any part of the Item Lookup Screen.  You can do this by using the built in security function.  Or you could disable the screen entirely by securing the F2 Lookup function button.  The help for RMS walks you through security setup very well.

If the lookup is sorted by the ItemLookupCode column then you wont have this problem.

I see this all the time in all POS systems that provide a lookup function, cashiers need to double check the sales order and take there time.
