MR Viewer (CU 9) - security for buttons "Refresh" or "Publish"

Posted on by 1,480

CU 9 provided the ability to refresh reports or publish reports from a browser.  However, there is no documentation as to which type of user will have this permission.

Does anyone with permissions to MR report (via viewer) have these capabilities? Or do the buttons access get driven by the role assigned to the User in MR such as Administrator/designer/ generator User and not VIewer roles ?

    Mike,

Sorry for the ambiguity of my response.  I can state unequivocally, even with the maximum permission afforded in Report Library Permissions, simple viewer users cannot "refresh" or "publish" reports.  The buttons do not show in the browser.

Thank you for your response.  I already have access to the documentation about MR roles as you have explained.

I will refine my question since maybe it was a little unclear.  My question is would the Viewer Role, disable the users ability to use the "refresh" or "publish" buttons when the User (assigned to the Viewer role) looks at a report in the web browser.  The "refresh" and "publish" buttons are new features in CU9 but the documentation wasn't updated to determine which roles have permissions to use this feature.

You answer is "maybe".   I was hoping that you could report a definitive yes or no or maybe you could test..

I don't have access to Active Directory nor MR security to test these things and don't want to bother IT with unnecessary changes.

    thanks for you continued help.

Viewer role will allow users to view published reports, export to excel, drill down to GP and print reports by default - there are a couple of other things, like commenting and controlling report options embedded in the viewer role.

Generator privileges share these features and a couple more - generating reports, exporting building blocks.   Most likely Viewer roles are optimal for what you're trying to accomplish.
