How well do you like Analytical Accounting?

Posted on by 40

We will need to change our current Account Mask or activate AA to get the reporting we want.  I would like to know from AA users how well they like it.  Did you need to buy additional software to get the reporting you want?  how hard was it to activate and use?  Can you still use IM?

I don't know. One of my associates got it and sent it to me. I can send it to you if you send a message to me.

Is this "The Patricia Miller?" :)

The benefit of AA over GP chart of accounts segments is:

    1. Less hard segments to have to enter data into

    2. Less GL accounts

    3. Ability to set restrictions by dimension so the user is limited on what values can be entered

The disadvantage of AA is it does require the user to enter data into a different window. The window does open automatically which helps. You can also require users to enter data for certain account/dimension combinations.

The setup is fairly easy, depending upon how much you set it up. It works with the following:

GL, Payables, POP, Receivables, SOP, Inventory, and Bank Rec. (as far as US products are concerned).

Modules that generate GL entries based upon a routine rather than data entry, like FA, don't use it. You would need to go into GL and add the AA data to the entry created by FA.

    Callen,

Could you elaborate more on that stored procedure?  Is it on CustomerSource? I couldn't find it.  I was actually about to write a trigger and stored procedure  to do just that.  But if Microsoft already did it, I won't waste my time.  Is it a KB article?

What do you think are the benifits of using AA over the standard for GP?  Does it save time or provide less errors?  Are the reporting capabilities better? Is the setup easy?  Would you recomend using AA if you plan to continually be adding locations and depatments?  Does it work with all modules, or add ons (ie FA)?

I'm not a user but I'll try to answer some of your questions.

    1. For reporting, you can use FRx, SmartList, AA queries, and SSRS. All of the above are part of GP or SQL Server.

    2. Depending upon the types of transactions you want to import, you can use Integration Manager (if you're using GP 10). The GL transaction, Purchase Receipts and SOP transactions support AA data when you use the eConnect adapter.

    3. There is a stored procedure you can get from MS or your partner that can automate security for new dimensions so you don't have to manually assign security.
