Emails from workflow have very long file names

Were having issues with not being able to open attachments from workflow emails because the file name is too long. The test file attached had this file name originally : IP Ping Full - 6_26_15.pdf

this is what it looked like after being sent out from GP: IP Ping Full - 6_26_15.pdf-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any idea on why this would happen?

Does anyone know if this is how SMTP interprets the padding at the end? The GP database has ansi_padding set to 255 for this column so no matter what the padding fills in the remaining characters on the file name. Very frustrated with these attachments in WorkFLow

It appears as if the file name in the sql table is being padded with a bunch of spaces. Is there any way to limit the length of the file name?
