Visual Studios Reporting Error

Posted on by

Hi Folks,

I'm looking for some help please!

We are using Dynamics 2016 Online and are using custom SSRS Reports through a XML Fetch.
I was in the process of trying to update our reports and VS 2012 is now stating that my fetch is incorrect and is unable to connect - no changes were made to the fetch however... Trying this on VS 2015 this is not an issue, but when ever I try to save a report VS 2015 will continually crash when trying to save the report?

Lost on what to do???

Thanks for any help!!!

Are you looking at the bin/debug (or bin/release) subfolder? It won't change the version in the "source" folder (where you are opening the report from while in the Visual Studio)

    Hi Alex,

    Yeah sadly not....

Build or Rebuild doesnt change it back to the correct version. Still points to 2016 after either one.

    Hi Blair,

after changing the target version, you have to build the report, and you have to get that rdl from the bin/debug subfolder. That one will have correct target version.

Actually, you may need to use "rebuild" rather than "build".. "Build" seems to be too intelligent - sometimes, it would not actually build anything if it thinks there were no changes (right click on your reporting project - you'll see those two options there).

    Hi Alex,

Managed to fix the saving issue, now having the same issue as you!

I've looked at the blog and tired to switch the target version back to 2008. But when I try to upload the report its still saying that its reporting to 2016 and not 2008?

    Any ideas?

When I look at the report code its still stating 2016:

    <Report xmlns="schemas.microsoft.com/.../reportdefinition" xmlns:rd="schemas.microsoft.com/.../reportdesigner">

This may not be directly related - in this case I could not upload the report created in VS 2015 to Dynamics 365, so it's probably one step ahead of where you are right now if you can't even save it.. still, just in case:

Did you update the report authoring tool for dynamics 365? If not, then try updating it.
