Connecting to EU NAV 2017/18 installation from US

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Anyone have experience with this? Good idea? Bad idea?

Currently this is an installation on an on-premise server in Europe. Here in the states we have the desktop client and it is connecting to that installation. This is only a test at the moment - but we are trying to figure out if this will be OK... or if we should move to Azure... or if we should continue having separate on-prem installations in the USA and EU and just keep all the data in sync as best we can using tools like SSIS/SQL log shipping, etc.

Curious if anyone has ever worked with an implementation like this before and if you have any wise words to share!

It depends on performance and your transaction volume.  If performance is acceptable during testing, then there is no problem with having server in Europe.  I have worked with many clients who had server on the other side of the ocean.

There is also a question of which localization you are using.  If you are using North American db/ code base or european.
