Here I am facing a problem with the No.series functionality in NAV for Journals. My finance users are using same No.series and same Journal at a time with these users are getting the same Document No. which is creating a problem actually this No.series should work like the orders and invoices. (Hope Microsoft can fix this in near future)

Here I can't assign individual No.series it will be a problem for filing purpose.

kindly suggest a best possible way...thank u.

    Hi,

    that is the most common error when using journals. I always suggest creating separate number series for separate batches and never had any negative feedback. It is just the way NAV works and definitely doesn't require a fix, otherwise you would end up with LOADS of gaps in between document numbers as users tend to delete journal lines, etc.. Not sure what filing issues it may cause (seems a bit far-fetched to be honest...) but you would actually gain some easier traceability - if each batch has it's 'owner' and has a specific number series, then just by looking at posted GL entries you'd know who has posted these (I know there are other ways to see it, but it would make things easier).

    If you still don't intend to use separate No.Series for separate batches, then use 'Renumber Document Numbers' action before posting the journal - that correct numbers automatically to what is next expected.

    Even I suggested to my clients to use the seperate No. series per user but they denied as this documents are approved by the senior management and checks the values and format carefully and even documentation is getting a problem they use the narrations too then with the same number series while posting renaming the document No. it shows some others narration, so likewise this No. series giving a big heck....

    We all have those customers :) There are only two options - they either pay a lot of money for the cost of modification (development, support, future upgrades, etc.), or adapt their process to work with NAV. At the end of the day thousands of companies of different sizes use NAV and don't have a problem with journals having different number series... their choice though.
