Request to know how to prevent reports from being taken away in BC Saas

Hi Community,

Recently, I have been noticing that the reports which my users enjoy using in BC has been slowly phasing out.

My solution providers have no ideas why they are being phasing out either.

So I have someone here will know.

Also, may I know if there are anyway to stop those obsolete report from taken off? To be sure, the excel versions are not really user friendly and tends to wait quite long to load.

Obsolete reports are removed by design in SaaS environments to maintain system integrity and performance. The best long-term approach is to recreate or extend those reports under your own namespace.
In Dynamics 365 Business Central SaaS, reports marked as Obsolete are automatically deprecated by Microsoft as part of the platform’s lifecycle management. This process ensures that outdated report objects are replaced by newer, standardized versions or modern alternatives (such as Excel layouts or Power BI integrations). Unfortunately, there is no supported way to prevent obsolete reports from being removed once they are flagged in the application code.
Here are your practical options:

Create a custom report extension

You can clone the existing report object before it becomes obsolete.

Rename it and remove the ObsoleteState property in AL code.

Publish it as a custom extension so your users can continue using it.

Use Report Layouts or Excel Templates

If the report’s data is still available, you can design a new layout using Word or Excel.

This approach keeps compatibility with future updates.

Monitor Microsoft release notes

Check the “Deprecated Features” section in each major update.

This helps you anticipate which reports will be phased out and plan replacements early.

Engage your partner or CSP

They can help you package legacy reports into a managed extension that remains compatible with SaaS updates.

Microsoft has been gradually deprecating and removing some legacy reports as Business Central evolves. This is usually part of their effort to move customers toward newer reporting options, Excel analysis, Power BI, or redesigned reports. Unfortunately, once a report is marked as obsolete and eventually removed in a newer version, there isn't a setting to prevent Microsoft from removing it during an upgrade.

If there are reports your users rely on, you have a few options:

If you're still on a version where the report exists, you can copy the standard report into a custom object (with a new ID) and maintain it yourself.

If the report has already been removed, you'll need to recreate it or develop a custom replacement that meets your users' requirements.

Check the release notes for your Business Central version, as Microsoft usually documents reports that have been deprecated or replaced.

Microsoft is trying to modernize a lot of the reporting options for BC. Many of these reports are from the older Navision days and may have been designed years or decades ago. As Ali mentioned you can always copy the report object to a custom report. A lot of clients I work with are simply using a reporting tool like Power BI or Jet Reports or Cosmos or even a mix of them to build specific reports outside of the system that they can control themselves.

Your partner should also be working with you each update to test any key reports you need and providing options for replacing legacy reports that are being deprecated.

Hi, this one's actually not a mystery timeline, Microsoft announced it, these legacy reports go out in 2026 release wave 1, version 28.0. So it's a scheduled removal, not an obsolete-flag-sits-around-forever thing. The replacements aren't just Analysis Mode, Microsoft's pointing people to list-page data analysis, the newer Excel-layout reports, and Power BI reports depending on which one you're replacing.
On stopping it, no, a partner can't block Microsoft from pulling the standard object, that part is fixed. What a developer can do is rebuild the report as a new custom report in an extension, own object ID, dataset and layout copied or reconstructed from scratch, and from then on your side owns maintaining it. Worth doing only for the ones your users actually can't live without, not all of them.

For the slow Excel versions, that's separate, raise it through Send feedback, it's a real usability complaint on its own

you can get list of deprcated object list . based on below links please check . for that if you want to use old reports , you can copy that reports into custom object and add as per requirement .

Hello,

Microsoft is intentionally retiring these legacy reports because they are difficult to maintain or customize without AL/RDLC development, and replacing them with newer reports, Excel layouts, Analysis Mode, and Power BI. Reports such as Trial Balance, Trial Balance/Budget, Fixed Asset Analysis/Details, Vendor List, Vendor Top 10, and Work/Machine Centre Load are included in Microsoft’s deprecated legacy-report list for Business Central 2026 release wave 1. In Business Central SaaS, you cannot stop Microsoft from eventually removing objects from the Base Application; if a specific legacy report is business-critical and the replacement is unsuitable, your partner should copy/rebuild it as a custom report in a per-tenant extension before it is removed. This preserves similar output and behavior, but the custom version then becomes your responsibility to maintain through future upgrades.
