Accessing MSCRM Online Application from Custom ASPX page with SSO feature

Posted on by 25

Hi Experts,

I have a requirement, where I need to give access to multiple application from Custom ,Net Page. One of the application is MSCRM 2016 Online. Once User login to Custom Page, based on application selection, this should redirect user to MSCRM application with Single Sign on, so that user does not need to login again into CRM application. Please suggest, how this can be achieved.

Thanks

Aavi

    Aavi,

It would be much easier for you to get it to work seemless if they were using the same authentication provider and it would cut out the additional authentication provider and lower your long term supports costs of the application.

It can work the other way, just a lot more complicated and complex. I would try to have them share the same provider and go with that. It would pay off in the end.

    Hi Stephen,

As you said above, if the user logged into custom page, has same SSO/ADFS setup with Office 365, will this redirect user to CRM page without asking again credentials ?

    Thanks

If that is the case the only way to have this work is you have to create a SAML 2.0 post to do the authentication hand off.

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn641269.aspx

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/connect/active-directory-aadconnect-federation-compatibility

The assumption there would be that the user is authenticated by the custom asp.net page which is tied to their ad account name, then you do the hand off using the information from the above MSDN article. I haven't seen this done with CRM online but I have used this method for other sites which used ADFS for authentication.

    Good luck,
    -Stephen

For user logging on to custom page, there is different authentication mechanism, not the SSO/ADFS for CRM Online.

Is the user logging on to the custom page with the same SSO/ADFS setup for CRM Online?
