GP Licensing for Historical Reporting

What are the GP licensing requirements for historical reporting?  We have a few clients that have migrated GP licenses to D365 Business Central.  Dynamics GP is now static but the archive is still being used for historical lookups.  This can be case for 7 years for tax purposes, or extended even longer for forensic purposes.  I'm wondering what will happen if/when there is a Microsoft licensing audit with GP still in place but no longer in production.
